Ruth Velez-Riske: Board member, parent, Green Team leader

It’s been a wonderful place for older kids to learn SELF CONFIDENCE. As volunteers, they get a chance to interact with people of all ages.”

Ruth Riske is trained as a scientist but she's now going to school for landscape design.

Ruth has been part of the Museum family for 19 years. She first brought her 12 month old son here after moving into the area from NJ.

When asked about what programs and events she's participated in, Ruth was very excited to say “Everything! We’ve had a number of galas t hat I've worked on,  I am a part of the decorating committees and I help with the character breakfasts. I was Snow White for one of them! I enjoy working on the Road Races; it goes right by my house. I've taught Spanish here at the Museum and I’m on the Board of Directors.”

Ruth then talked about how she and her family benefited from the Museum and she stated, “I took my son, Brendan here when he was one year old, it was his favorite place to come. He loved dinosaurs and he loved the exhibit in the hall. As he got older he did other things with the Museum like enjoying the animal classes, he even did dinosaur presentations for the younger kids and  he has volunteered for different things.

My daughter, Ari, has also been involved. She helps in my classes and with clean up and maintenance on the Green Team, the Museum's volunteer team that takes care of the Wild Place.  She helps with the Road Race and the Holiday Shop.   We enjoy supporting a great cause like the Museum."
