Karen Rodgers: Parent, music educator, reading specialist, community volunteer
It's just me and my kids; TOGETHER we forget about the world and become immersed play.
Karen is a mother of two boys, Andrew and David, and wife of Rob, an attorney and college professor. She's been an active member of the Museum's Green Team for over two years, bringing her sons to help out, enjoy nature and encouraging them to give back to their community!
We asked Karen . . . what do you think about the Museum? She replied "It’s a wonderful place where there is such a sense of community. You run into people that you know and don’t know … it offers a great opportunity to connect with people. It’s so small and personal and homey.
The opportunity for kids to explore and create is phenomenal. I love watching them do things at the Museum that wouldn’t naturally occur at home. There is so much media. Kids are bombarded with video games and television. The Museum provides a place for free exploration and connections that wouldn’t happen between children and parents. I think that’s extraordinary.
The best memory at the Museum is of the face painting! The number of times my kids have completely covered their faces and become superheroes and Star Wars characters .. . and, the challenge it brings in taking it off!
It’s such a gift. There's such a creative opportunity there, it’s incredibly fun. No matter when we go the kids loves painting their faces to be their favorite characters and it’s always really fun because they become those characters when they’re there. Whether they’re on the pirate ship or being storm troopers, Spiderman … it’s a really a fun time to watch the kids explore and be creative."
