Karen Mitchell: Parent Support/Family Literacy Specialist with Community Partnerships for Children
“The staff is very, very accommodating and open to whatever I come to them about. If I ask, “can we do this” they say, “sure! What will it take to do it?” Their activeness in the community is wonderful. Getting people involved. It’s great to see the board members, and the museum getting involved in whatever is impacting the community.”

For over 11 years, Karen has run a Monday morning playgroup for Community Partnerships for Children at the Children's Museum.
We asked Karen to talk about why she continued to support the Museum after all this time and her response was, “It works. It’s great for the community. I have people coming down to the playgroup from Dorchester every week. It’s pretty well known up there.”
The main thing that surprised Karen about the Museum was, “Parents keep coming back. I have parents that are on their 4th child at the Museum. They’re getting something out of it!
It’s a great place for learning. It’s a great place for exploring for children. It's a friendly environment. I love it there. We do more than playgroups; we do literacy programs and parenting programs. We do family fun nights.
You never graduate from the Children’s Museum because whenever you go back there is something different.”
