Dafne Preskins: Child Life Specialist, parent, Museum program facilitator
“We love it there. It sounds basic and simple. They care about the community and want to help the children in the community. [It’s] a great place to be!”
Dafne Preskins is a mother of two and works as a child life specialist for Boston Medical Center. In her past role at Brockton Hospital she ran educational programs for the Museum such as “New Baby at your House” or “So You're Visiting the Hospital.”
Dafne first came to the Museum about 6 years ago as a visitor with her oldest son. “I love the SIZE of the Museum. I tell my friends that the main area is perfect for sitting and watching your child, sit, relax and bring in a cup of coffee if it’s not too busy. And just watch your child have fun. I really do love it. It’s nice to socialize with your mom friends and not feel like you have to be right on top of your child.”
Dafne also appreciates the Museum’s positive influence on her son, “It was a great atmosphere for him, because he was a little shy, for him to branch out and go up to another child and play and interact. He still does that when he doesn’t want to play with his little brother. He can find other children that are his age and go up and say, ‘Hi! What’s your name?’”
Dafne is also grateful for her close relationship with staff members, “everyone is so warm and friendly. Even when I don’t know who’s at the front desk, I still feel welcomed!”
