Bill McCarthy: Grandfather, actor
The people my wife and I have meet while volunteering here are so PASSIONATE about inspiring children to learn through play! I can’t imagine the museum not being a part of our lives!”
Bill says, “the Museum has done so much for the young people. Not just the kids but the interns! We’ve met some great high school and college kids. We know them and they know us, I think they do a wonderful job.”
What surprised Bill the most about the Museum was, “The way things are so readily changed. (They’re) refreshing something and making it new all the time. There’s always something different. It’s important to change it. So the visitors don’t get bored. They come in and see something new!"
We asked Bill why he and his family volunteer at the Museum, and he responded, “I’m delighted that my wife and I can give back some. We’ve had a good time in our life, and brought up our own children. Now we can do something for other families.
For instance, my wife and I volunteer at the events and I wear a lot of different costume and play many different roles. I’ve been a fireman, Mr. McGregor from Peter Rabbit stories, the King of the Mardi Gras and many more. And each New Year I play a different cultural figure…it’s been a chimney sweep, a Russian King and more. It’s fun and I love giving back!"
