Allyson Bizer Knox- Parent, science educator

I've used what I learned at the Museum: the value of imagination, HANDS-ON LEARNING and freedom of expression!”

Allyson Bizer Knox is a teacher with the Barnstable County 4-H UMASS/Extension and owns a small business providing outreach programs in art, nature and science.  But, in 1991 she was one of the Children Museum’s first interns! She credits the Museum with helping her find her true calling.

Allyson says that she clearly remembers her first experience. “Walking into the Children’s Museum that day changed the course of my life. Instantly, I knew that I wanted to teach and learn in this kind of environment; where hands-on play coupled with active learning was the focus.” After her internship she changed her college major with the intention of pursuing a teaching career with a focus on hands-on activity based learning.

Allyson has started a new project. She says, “I am leading a group of community members in converting an old school building as a center for art, science and culture. Suffice to say this project would not be underway without the example of the founding leaders of The Children’s Museum in Easton and my experience working there.”
